Scottish Borders - Award Of Excellence

A famous old retreat favoured by both Sir Walter Scott, whose statue is now found outside the entrance of the hotel, and the widely acclaimed William Wordsworth, who mentioned the hotel in his poem, Yarrow Revisited, Clovenfords Hotel has long been renowned as a cosy and hospitable base for those visiting Scotland.

Built in the 18th Century with original features today combined with modern fixtures and fittings providing a comfortable stay throughout the year, The Shires Magazine is delighted to present The Award of Excellence for Quality and Service for the Hotel of the Year 2009-10.

The main hotel in the village of Clovenfords set two miles away from the nearest town of Galashiels, all types of guests are heartily welcomed through its doors.

Catering for all ages and types of visit, six well appointed bedrooms complete the selection of guest accommodation. All with the luxury of en-suite facilities and the comfort of a homely ambience, a ground-floor twin room aimed at disabled patrons or the elderly is joined by a mixture of additional twins, doubles and triples.  All with satellite television, plus tea and coffee making facilities, a selection has sofas or desks with the intention of maximising your relaxation and convenience during your stay.

All let on a bed and breakfast basis with a choice of cereals and fruit juices, Scottish cooked breakfast favourites and tea and coffee, guests don’t have to travel far to find high quality affordable meals throughout the day.  Dining is somewhat of a treat at Clovenfords with The Vineyard, Scott Lounge and the Public Bar, or even the sun terrace outside when the weather is nice, seating expectant diners.

Skilled chefs dedicated to cooking delicious dishes use only the finest local fresh ingredients to provide diners with culinary delights.  Combining traditional Scottish and ultra-modern cooking styles to create dishes to please all preferences, the grazed beef, lamb, game and haddock all from the local area are all highly recommended!

In the immediate area the open countryside offers a wealth of outdoor pursuits.  Friendly and helpful staff are more than happy to arrange fishing tuition, salmon fishing, shooting, walking or mountain biking with local specialists in the area; or simply offer advice on local walking or cycling routes through the surrounding hills, rivers and woodlands.
